Corvallis
and Philomath are complementary neighboring towns. The population of Corvallis is 60,000 and its neighbor Philomath at 4600.
Corvallis is located along the foothills of the Oregon Coastal Mountain Range with the Willamette River running through the town. The downtown is lively and provides many great restaurants and shops. You will find a nice mixture of farmland and an abundance of mountain landscapes, along with hundreds of miles of maintained hiking trails.
Corvallis is the home of Oregon State University which naturally makes educational attainment and resources notably strong. The local schools are all consistently rated high providing a great place to raise a family. College sports are enthusiastically supported. It is amazing to be only an hour from the beautiful Pacific Coast and an hour and half from the big city life of Portland.
Philomath
Philomath is nestled at the base of Mary’s Peak, with easy access to the Alsea, Mary’s, and Willamette rivers. It’s one of those lovely little towns where you always meet a friendly face and no one is a stranger.
Mary’s river flows through town, providing several great spots to take the family swimming on a hot summer day. It is a quick ten minutes drive to the neighboring college town of Corvallis which has everything else you might need. If you like the feel of a small rural town, without being way out there, Philomath is the perfect place to be.
Between the old growth found in McDonald-Dunn forest, to the spectacular views at the top of Mary’s Peak, Corvallis and Philomath have everything any nature lover would ever need to feel at home.
